Moon in Clouds (Nikon N75 film camera, 2003)
Contrast
Film: Use right film for the occasion
Digital: Don’t worry about it. Do it in Post Processing.
Colors
Film: Use right film and filters to achieve the look you want
Digital: Don’t worry about it. Do it in Post Processing. Anyway I am not sure right now what look I want. Will see which looks best on this photograph by applying various color combinations in PP
.
Composition
Film: Compose precisely what you want. Very less scope left for cropping later.
Digital: I wish I had that high megapixel camera then I would have composed the way I wanted and then cropped it later for right look. I am stuck with this outdated, idiotic and embarrassing 6 MP resolution camera.
Exposure
Film: Expose right else you have screwed up everything.
Digital: Expose to the right (side of histogram without clipping) and do rest in PP.
One thing I have noticed with time that although digital has no monetary expense associated while shooting and doing PP, it is heavy on time. Due to no expense, I tend to shoot more thoughtless exposures, spend more time in sorting photographs and finding right candidates for PP, delete crappy ones and finally lot of time on PP. With film most of things were done on the spot and rest was done by lab.
But I am not complaining as money is more important to me than time
.
